As the global shortage of aerospace materials intensifies, securing a stable supply chain has emerged as a key priority for the aerospace industry. In response to this trend, SeAH Aerospace & Defense has become the first Korean materials company to sign a long-term agreement (LTA) with Airbus, which demonstrated its technological capabilities and quality competitiveness in the global aerospace materials market.

SeAH Aerospace & Defense (SeAH A&D) has become the first Korean materials company to sign a long-term agreement (LTA) with global aircraft manufacturer Airbus for the supply of high-strength aluminum alloy materials.

The agreement is particularly significant as it is an unusual case in which the long-term supply agreement was signed ahead of product certification, unlike the conventional practice of entering into a supply agreement after completing product certification.

Accordingly, SeAH A&D will begin the quality assurance process in the second half of this year for the supply of high-strength aluminum alloys, a key material used in Airbus aircraft fuselage and wing structures, and plans to begin full-scale mass production and supply in 2028.

Global demand for aircraft has recently been growing rapidly, but the supply of aerospace materials that meet stringent specifications has struggled to keep pace. This has further intensified structural bottlenecks across the supply chain. The agreement was made possible thanks to Airbus’ strategy to secure a stable supply chain at an early stage and SeAH A&D’s advanced process control capabilities and strong quality competitiveness that fit Airbus’ needs.

In fact, SeAH A&D’s competitiveness has already been recognized in global markets.

Based on its proven technological capabilities, the company continues to expand its presence in the global aerospace aluminum alloy market, traditionally led by major materials companies in Europe and the U.S. The company currently supplies materials to Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. In December last year, it also signed an LTA with Boeing, demonstrating its world-class supply capabilities.

In addition, SeAH A&D is building a new plant in Changnyeong, Korea, to meet growing global demand for aerospace materials, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027. The new plant is expected to further strengthen the company’s supply capabilities and position SeAH A&D as a key partner providing raw materials directly to major aerospace parts manufacturers across the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and India.

Meanwhile, the agreement with Airbus was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, held in London, U.K., from July 20 to 24. At the airshow, SeAH A&D actively pursued business meetings and strategic networking to expand its global supply chain, while showcasing its track record of supplying aluminum alloy materials for a range of aerospace and defense applications, including commercial and military aircraft and urban air mobility (UAM). In particular, the company highlighted its optimized process control technologies for high-strength aluminum extrusions used in the wings and fuselages of major Airbus aircraft models, where precise control of material properties and stringent quality standards are required. These efforts helped demonstrate its ability to achieve both aircraft weight reduction and structural stability.
