On 25th, SeAH Steel announced that it signed an STS welded pipe supply agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation, of which scale is the largest in the world for a single project. Under this agreement, SeAH Steel will supply approximately KRW 172 billion worth products to Samsung C&T Corporation’s Qatar LNG North Gas Field Project by the second half of 2023. SeAH Steel plans to capture the STS welded pipe market in earnest to keep pace with the demand from the LNG projects sharply increasing in the period of energy transition.

Qatar LGN North Gas Field Project is one of the largest LNG projects – it is expected to spend approximately KRW 1.8 trillion solely for the construction of 3 storage tanks capable of storing 187,000㎥ of LNG, 3 docking facilities and transportation pipelines. The STS welded pipes SeAH Steel is to supply to this Project are the highly value-added products with excellent low temperature impact resistance and high pressure endurance performances, which means that they are to handle the natural gas liquified at the temperature of -162 Celsius under 1 atmosphere and will not break even if an impact is applied at extremely low temperatures. SeAH Steel is the only Korean steel pipe manufacturer that possesses an integrated STS welded pipe manufacturing system by which a variety of products can be manufactured – the pipes with various external diameters ranging from 0.5 inch to 197 inches and thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 128mm. Based on such an unequaled competitiveness, the company is building up a track record of delivering it products to large global LNG projects.

In fact, SeAH Steel was the first Korean supplier to supply its products to the first shale gas development project in the U.S., Sabine Pass LNG Project, in 2014 and has been supplying its products to all shale gas development projects in the U.S. By winning Qatar LNG North Gas Field Project this time after the winnings of Canada LNG Project in 2020 and Mozambique LNG Project in 2021, SeAH Steel recorded its third win in the global LNG project circle.
